Palestine has a very ancient history, which has its roots in prehistoric times. It is not known exactly when man began to populate this land, but archaeological studies indicate that the first settled human communities were those of the Natufians, a culture that flourished between about 14,000 and 9,000 years ago
The Natufians lived mainly in the hilly regions and valleys of Palestine and Syria. They were hunter-gatherers, but unlike the previous nomadic populations, they began to develop semi-permanent settlements. This period marked a fundamental transition towards sedentarization and the birth of agriculture. Traces of their presence are found in various archaeological sites, including the Natuf Valley, near Jerusalem, which gave its name to this culture
Archaeological excavations have revealed that the Natufians built circular stone dwellings and used advanced tools for grinding cereals, a sign that they had begun to cultivate some wild plants. These elements make the Natufian culture one of the most important in the evolution of human societies, as it represents a transition stage between nomadism and sedentary agricultural life
Over time, around 9,000 BC, Palestine saw the emergence of the Neolithic culture, characterized by more structured villages, the use of ceramics and a greater development of agriculture and livestock farming. This period was followed by the Bronze Age, during which the region became a crossroads of civilizations, with contacts and exchanges between Mesopotamia, Egypt and Anatolia
The history of Palestine is therefore marked by a long evolution, which has seen its lands inhabited by many populations and cultures, leaving an archaeological and historical legacy of immense value
